1. Email his supervisor and get time off for him approved.
2. Somehow get his password to his Alaska Air account without him becoming suspicious.
3. Buy some airplane tickets to California using his companion fare.
4. Don't forget to change the email account on his Alaska Air account so that he doesn't get any notices.
5. Let the YM president know that he will not be available to teach that weekend.
6. Call Chris aunt and arrange pick up from the airport and activities
7. Let Emma's soccer coach know that he will not be available to co-coach that weekend.
8. Tell him that your mom is staying with you because she "needs a rest." It's really to watch the girls.
9. Make helicopter reservations to fly us to Catalina Island making one of his dreams come true. (the helicopter, not Catalina).
10. Ask him what he would like to do for his birthday.
11. Throw him off track by telling him such lies as:
He has a 6 p.m. appointment to give blood for the Red Cross on Thursday evening.
We are going to dinner on Saturday evening with our friends Glen and Julie
That one of Emma's teammates needs a ride to the game on Saturday.
12. Make hotel reservation on Catalina Island.
13. Pack him and yourself.
14. Email his supervisor reminding him of the time he will be away from work.
15. Print out airplane boarding passes.
16. Call him at 4 p.m. on Thursday and tell him to be outside his work in 10 minutes. To shut down his computer and bring everything with him.
17. Pick him up at work and drive to the MAX.
18. Hand him a suitcase and tell him to turn his pocket knife over to your mother.
19. Ride the MAX to the airport and fly to California.
20. Arrive in CA and tell him to be ready to go by 7:00 a.m.
21. Leave at 7:00 a.m. and drive to the heliport.
Surprise, you are going to Catalina Island on a helicopter!
It was tons of fun to plan and Chris had a great 40th Birthday. Other things we enjoyed doing were visiting with his grandmother and aunt. Seeing his cousin, Carisa who he hadn't seen in years and I had never met. Going to the Getty art museum. Time spent with friends Mark and Robin, old friends of Chris' dad.
