Logan, Utah.......The Bluebird Cafe

Makenzie went to EFY in Logan Utah this year. That meant that I got to go and spend a week with Emma and Heidi and visit family. What a great time we had. I had never been to Cache Valley and I loved it. While I was there I had a few things I wanted to do.

Up on the list this time was a visit to The Bluebird Cafe. I got that idea from a blog posting of my friend Hailey. I love Ironport. Don't be suprised if you have no idea what Ironport is. It is very hard to find. I have only had it a few times in my life and that was in a tiny town called Fairview, Utah. It's a cross between a rootbeer, coke and cream soda. It's delish. My mouth is watering right now. So anyway, they have ironport at The Bluebird Cafe, downtown Logan. My cousin Rachel grew up in Logan and was thus very familiar with the locale. But she had never had this drink I was claiming was so good. So we went. We went with our kids. Now I have to tell you that Rachel and I both have girls, all girls, three girls to be exact. Isn't that fun? Our two oldest girls were at EFY but we took our younger two with us everywhere that week. When I walk in I feel like I'm transported in time. Back to the '50s when there were real marble soda counters and they would hand mix all your drinks. There are a couple of pies sitting on the back and jars of candy line the mirror. The swivel chairs are fun and immediately the girls start spinning. But I'm here for my Ironport. I glance through the menu just because but soon get down to business.
"I hear you have Ironport here."

"Yes, we do" the young 20 something waitress replies.

We order our Ironport and it's good. But a little sweeter than I remembered. It probably just is sweeter I decide since they mix it themselves with each glass they make. Then I remember reading on a review of The Bluebird Cafe that you should try the Ironport with cream. That sounds perfect to cut the sweetness. Paige is to the left of me and with one sip of this drink she is hooked. she orders hers. Everyone tastes mine and they then all follow. I ask for cream. The nice waitress obliges and I get mine back with frothy rich cream. One sip and I think I have gone to heaven. Will they have this in heaven? I sure hope so.

Paige sips mine and the look on her face says it all. She scoots her glass to the edge of the counter towards the waitress and says, "Cream Please." I smile. We all get cream and we finish every last drop.

oooohhhh very yummy! I want some NOW. That was actually a rather mean post if you think about it. Now I have to sit here and ponder how I will ever get to try this from here, knowing that the chances are a close maybe never. But I guess I can be happy for YOU! Yeah - I'll do that, better than feeling sorry for me.

Oh, you are making me miss The Bluebird so much! I am craving an ironport and Bluebird chicken (the yummiest chicken dish around!). I might just pack the girls in the car and drive 12 hours to satisfy this craving.
Did you happen to try the chocolates? They are amazing. I think everything in there tastes better for the ambience of such a cool old building.
*side note: I keep forgetting that you know Jenny Allen, maybe we'll have to do a reunion of sorts in Logan!

YUMMM! I have never heard of Ironport, but I LOVE cream soda. It was my favorite drink growing up. Is Logan really the only place that has Ironport? It has to be here in the Portland area somewhere. I would love to try it.
