Each morning when the sun comes up
I've been getting up at 4:45 a.m. for 5 weeks now to go to the gym. Does that make it a habit yet?
I am on week 5 of my Couch to 5k training program and I don't look like the lady runner above. For one thing, when I run, I think my feet are barely leaving the ground. My husband reminded me the other day that I don't need to run, I can just jog. I looked at him like "what's the difference?" My jog is my run and my run is my jog. It's all the same in my book. I have 2 speeds. I have my walking speed and my running speed.
She makes it look effortless, with the birds in the background it gives her an appearance of flying, that she is light as one of them birds. I, on the other hand feel all 200 + pounds of me every time a foot hits the tread on that treadmill. It's not easy.
And let's take a look at her attire. If I wore something like that the people at the gym would probably assume that I was part of The Biggest Loser. We've seen what they have to wear for those weigh-ins. They are brave. That's what I have to say about that.
Despite the comparisons, I am feeling great about my accomplishments over the past 5 weeks. I have done this program before but never got to the point where I could actually run 3 miles without stopping. This time I am doing the program for distance not time and I think it is making a difference. Earlier this week I had to run a half mile without stopping. I had to do that three times with a 1/4 mile walk in-between. I couldn't finish the last 1/2 mile. It was so hard, I almost made it but my legs hurt so badly. Today I did it again and I completed it! I felt a lot stronger today. I have increased my weights since I started five weeks ago as well.
So I may not look like the runner above but we do have one thing in common; we like to run when the sun is coming up.
I hope there are others of you out there preparing for your Thanksgiving 5k. I want to hear about it, what are you doing to get ready? Maybe you are already ready. Then tell me what 5k you are going to do. And if you are not going to do a 5k, that's okay. Just tell me what you are doing for Thanksgiving. Where will you be spending it?

Good for you!!!
I love your honesty and candidness. It makes me smile.
A Thanksgiving 5K, huh? I've never done a 5K. You're awesome for taking that on and for sticking with the program for 5 whole weeks.
Inspiring.
I never looked into a Thanksgiving 5K out here. I wonder if I could start training now for one.
I'm seriously is awe that you ran that much. way to go!
As for Thanksgiving, we're staying home. No big plans for us.
Congratulations you are doing such an amazing job!
You are doing amazing Darilyn!! Way to go! I haven't done so good lately. This week I didn't go running once. Ugh! So my hats off to you Darilyn! I haven't decied which run I"m going to do for sure yet. If I can get it together, I might do the 10k in Sherwood, or maybe the 5k we'll see. I was also considering the one at the zoo. They have a lot of hills and I"m not a big fan of hills. So I"m still undecided but I need to decide quickly.
I'm with you...I love getting up and going to the gym in the AM. It's hard getting out of bed but it's wonderful to have it all done before the kids are up :)
Which run are you doing? I had planned to do the Turkey Stuffer in Eugene on Thanksgiving morning but I had a little injury last week. I'm hoping it heals quickly and I can get back on the treadmill soon.
I'm excited for you, Darilyn. You are inspiring, for sure :)
You are amazing! The only way I run is if something much bigger and scarier than me is chasing me. I have tried it sooo many times in the past. First the breathlessness, then the fat-jiggly-all over burn, then the shin splints. I have never crossed a finish line for anything physical. It's on my bucket list, but I don't think I will be crossing it off anytime soon. Runners impress the heck out of me. You kep goin girl!!!
darilyn, you are awesome! way to stick to it! running has never been fun or enjoyable to me, but i do it b/c i feel good once it is done. what a great sense of accomplishment every time you complete your daily run!!
who knows what we will be doing at thanksgiving time?? i could be "running a marathon" of a different sort in the hospital bringing these two boys into the world... or i could be stuffing my face with too much food and regretting it afterwards! everything is so up in the air until these boys decide to come!
needless to say, we are staying put for the holidays!!
that is great Darilyn, thanks for the motivation...I walk with Val and Jennifer but I need to do more. Keep it up girl!
