Don't worry, i'm not into hardcore drugs or anything like that. but somewhere along the way this summer I became addicted to these:

You have to know about me that I have never at any point in my life been a big soda drinker. It's always been an occasional thing. I could have a case of diet pepsi in my fridge that would last 6 months.
This summer I just started drinking more soda than normal. Why did Safeway have that buy two cases and get three free sale in July? It was such a great deal. How could I resist? Especially with my sister encouraging me. Well, about a week ago I had a huge headache. I noticed that when I had a diet pepsi later that day that it went away. wow, I realized that the headache was related to not having my daily soda fix. So I watched myself over the next week and sure enough, I was exhausted in the morning until I had that first soda. For some reason I've been loving that carbonated drink thing lately.
So today was my first day without ANY caffeine whatsoever. And I've had a huge headache. But Aleve is my friend and is helping me get through this. I'm also really tired. I've felt all day as if I could fall asleep on the spot. But I'm determined to get over this. It doesn't mean I won't ever have another Cherry Coke Zero again (have you tried the stuff? YUMMY!). It just means that I need to wait a while and then go back to my moderation in all things.
So what can this poor girl do to get her bubbly craving and not consume caffeine? I don't want soda of anykind because, honestly, if I can't drink the three sodas above I don't want any. And don't even think of suggesting champagne. Alcohol would be another whole problem to deal with.
Has anyone tried any bubbly waters or juices that are any good?
Help!

Hi...My name is Rochelle and I too am an adict.
Is this anonymous?
Oh my, oh my, oh my. I have been there, and it is no good. I was 100% addicted to Dr. Pepper in college....like a can first thing in the morning, and then 8 more throughout the day. And if I didn't get all my soda, then my headache was TERRIBLE. And I kid you not, the moment I took a drink of caffene, the headache would dissapear. I have now been caffene free for 6 years, because it is as much an addiction to me and ciggaretes is to another. And I wish I had some helpful advice as to how to rid yourself of the awful headaches and sleepiness, but all I can say is that eventually it will pass. Wow, you hit a sensitive topic for me with this post. This might be my longest comment on a blog to date! Good luck Darilyn, keep me updated on your efforts! :)
Soooo, are you trying to avoid the caffeine or the soda? If you still want caffeine without the soda you can try Mate' tea. There is also all the fun crystal light stuff. You know, the little packages you can pour into your water. There are fun lemonade, or stawberry like ones that do not have any caffeine, or there is this one that actually has caffeine added to it. This is my fave, since as you noted in your blog, I have a caffiene addiction and love to feed it!
Oh and ah, I made sure that I drank all the soda before I left :)
I am also a addict. My name is Amanda and I am addicted to Diet Pepsi or Diet Vanilla Pepsi. With the occassional Diet Coke mixed in there.
I'm with Krista, crystal light is good (and wal-mart's brand is pretty good too).
Good luck!
I'm not going to be of any help! I love all the same things you do. But, I'm not trying to stop, so I don't have any suggestions of what to substitute them for. Sorry!
You are so funny Darilyn! I hope that your headaches go away soon! I've never been a big soda person either.
let's hope it is a quick thing for you to get over! i've never really been a soda drinker, either! mitch and i just prefer juices and water and milk. every once in awhile i love to have a fresca or a squirt, in fact we broke down when my sister was here and bought one. i guess the weakness is having sisters around! haha! my mom, however, is addicted to pepsi, though she is in denial! at least you are recognizing it and dealing with it with erly intervention!
you can do it darilyn!
I love all this encouragement. Thank you.
Stephanie, I know what you mean about the headaches not going away if you don't get all the caffeine my body is used to. One day last week I only had one diet coke from Costco. I still got a headache because I hadn't had ENOUGH caffeine. So I decided I just had to cut it out all together.
Krista,
I'm trying to avoid the caffeine. I like crystal light but you don't get the carbonation with that. I want bubbly stuff. Maybe San Pellegrino? But it's so darn expensive. I can't afford that stuff on any consistency.
Maybe you should buy a case of Sparkling Apple Cider and have a daily toast to no more headaches! I am not much of soda drinker at all, but I love a good lemonade. The bubbles just annoy me for some reason. Good luck getting over this. It does not sound fun, but I know you can do it:0)
Tonya,
I love this advice!
I am sorry I have no advice. I dont' like soda. Lucky me, I know. Good luck though!
Good luck! You can do it. Choclate maybe? Nah, that's moving from one vice to another :)
jet960csHave you tried HANSEN's soda? THey come in strawberry kiwi, and cherry and fizzel just like the real stuff. I turned my mom onto them and she loved them.Good luck on your quest, you could be a great example to scott!
I feel for you, Darilym. I was addicted to cherry coke my first year of college.
I was raised in one of those no caffeine Mormon homes, but when I found, as a teenager, that my other was hiding mini cans of Pepsi in the laundry basket she used for ironing, that principle went out with the wash, I guess you could say.
My roomie that first year was addicted to cherry coke, so I joined in (rebel that I am). I knew I had to quit before I went home for Christmas, so my addiction was short lived, but I remember the headaches well during finals, so I never went back again.
Funny thing is, I don't even like soda--too bubbly for my taste.
I am also an addict...and yes, I have tried Cherry Coke Zero (love it too)! I love carbonation too! What I have done to cut back on the amount of soda I drink is by the G2 (low calorie Gatorade) and I drink that during the day (but it is non-carbonated). I still drink my diet soda...but I try to watch the amount. I'm still hoping that one day I'll kick it for good!
