A day at the beach

The past 2 days have been a lot of fun for us. Yesterday we spent 3 hours at the beach. I decided to drive out to a beach that I hadn't been to since high school. I was surprised to find out that it is now managed by the national forest service and there was a $5 fee to go there. It ended up being worth it though because there was hardly anyone there. Probably since all the other beaches you don't have to pay for. It was a really warm sunny day or at least for Coos Bay it was! And there was only a slight breeze. Pretty unusual for the southern Oregon coast. I only had my phone so I took the above picture with it. They had so much fun getting completely wet head to toe and digging holes that they could sit in and disappear in. I mostly laid on a blanket and listened to the surf. It was an incredibly peaceful experience. At one point when the sun started going down it looked like the entire ocean in front of us had been sprinkled with diamonds. Heidi noticed it and said, "ooohh, the ocean is very sparkly."

Today Emma made a blanket. I will post a picture when I can. It's still on my phone and I can't figure out how to get it off. She fell in love with one of those tied fleece blankets while spending a morning at her Great Auntie Pam's house. I told her she could make one so we were off to the fabric store today to pick out her fleece. She worked on it tonight and finished it in a couple of hours. She is so proud of her accomplishment. It turned out beautiful and I love the smile on her face. Emma is very interested in sewing. I hope she can turn out to be a better seamstress than me. She asked me tonight about my years in sewing 4-H. I told her some of the things I had made and we pulled out the patterns for them. (of course my mom still has the patterns :) ) I didn't have the heart to tell Emma though that even after 11 years of sewing 4-H I STILL CAN'T SEW! My sister got that talent.

A couple of days ago my aunt and uncle drove the girls and i out to see the sea lions at cape arago. I hadn't done that in years either. We saw probably a 100 of them laying on a rocky beach. It was way cool. Usually when we come to Coos Bay we stay 2 nights and it is over a Sunday so we don't really get to do very much. It's been nice to have the time to go places that i haven't been to in years.

I canned tuna this week too. The price has gone up this year so I debated about doing it. But my taste buds won that debate. There is nothing better than fresh home canned tuna. Well, maybe a chocolate cheesecake is better but you know what I mean. It's also incredibly satisfying to see those jars lined up on the counter when you are done and thinking, "wow! I did that" I still get a thrill out of it after all the years I've been doing it.

Ok lots to comment on but it's almost 2 am, so I may not make sense. That is so cool, I have never even considered home canned tuna, wow! Although, my father-in-law cans trout and people love it. On the whole sparkly water, cool weather etc. thing, I started wondering, have you guys gotten into the Twilight, New Moon craze that is going on down here? The books by Stephanie Meyer? She is from Glendale, but her books seem to be huge all over. Lauren read them, then my Mom, me, now my neices are and when I bought them, the bookstore ladies were all, "oh, you'll love this book!" i am going to stop rambling now.

Hi Darilyn,
Love your blog, Krista's too. I just wrote to her. We won't have much of anything to can here this summer. We had a really hard, long late spring freeze and there will be no pears, apples, peaches etc. And of course, no ocean for fresh tuna- oh, that is so good. Soon we should be back in Oregon. Hugs to the girls, they are growing up beautifully, Love, aunt Sherilyn

Canned tuna! You go girl! That is awesome. What a great day at the beach too. My sewing skills- repair buttons. That's it. Very sad.

Wow, way to go on canning your own tuna! Everything sounds like so much fun and I can't wait until we get out there. After the family reunion Bruce and I are taking the boys to the beach and I can't wait to see how Connor reacts to the sand and ocean! Also, way to go Emma! I wish I had that talent!

Hello Darilyn,
You Blog is Magificent. I enjoyed reading you soulful thoughts and think that I may at times be an unspoken Ben. I know that Andria is concerned what I may say off the top of my head. I have apologized my share of the time.We just had our three oldest with their children for Grandma Camp at our house with Parents two weeks of program, garden stones, horse back riding Ratatouie, The Parade, swimming, swimming , food, The banzia and bicycle rideing. It was a great time by all and I was the erand boy to keep the eqipment supplied and Run the BBQ grill. I bought a new malabu car to cover the transportation needs and to add to our fleet a car with less then 200,000 miles. Sherilyn realy enjoyed as did I the family gathering In Oregon was Promoted for 2008.Your list of 50 was of interest to me. In my 60th year i have done 16 from your list and was thinking of ways you might combine a trip to the east and do 5,6,32
,35,42,, fly to chicago, rent a car, nauvou, Sara,us, Kirtland Palmyra, hill camorah, broadway, krista, chris, washington DC , new river rafting, Montechello, sherilyn, Uncle Jerry Chicago and home. Well their I go thinking for someone else, sorry. Uncle Mike
