Portland Food Review

I've been to a few restaurants lately and thought I would give a review of each one.

I had heard that Por Que No was a place not to be missed.  That their tacos were incredible and would be a sure favorite?

My verdict?  Just okay.

I loved the chips and salsa, definitely worth a return visit for.  But the tacos I was not terrible impressed with.  Not a ton of flavor and for $3 I expected a little bit more than what I got.  At least a double corn tortilla like you get in Mexico.  I probably won't return to this place.  The line was long though and it is obviously a very loved place.  You should check it out for yourself.

Mothers Bistro

I have been here for dinner and breakfast but never for lunch.  I had a daily special of a pulled chicken quesadilla and my sister ordered the crab cake sandwich which is a regular item.

The verdict?  Both plates were AMAZING.  Yum, yum.

Oh, and my sister also got the Cordon Bleu which was their fancy mac n cheese.  It was delish.

The Country Cat

This restaurant was on a list my sister had.  It's in a part of town that I was not familiar with and there wasn't really anything much around it. They do not have an extensive menu.  That is okay with me.  In fact, I prefer it that way. It makes it much easier to narrow down your choice.  The place was not busy on a Monday morning so we were given a seat by the window where the sun was able to bathe us with her light.  I ordered the Autumn Hash and my sister ordered the Eggs Benedict with the eggs scrambled.

The verdict?   I will return there tomorrow.  And if not tomorrow I will dream about that food until I can return.  So, so, so good.

The Autumn Hash was not only beautiful and tasty but healthy. I felt like I was eating exactly what a breakfast should be.  Full of vitamins with the swiss chard and spinach and squash and a punch of protein with two poached eggs on top.  And for a dose of energy there were some home fried potatoes sauteed in with it.  All of this was sitting on top of a light mustard sauce.  My mouth is watering thinking about it.

Then there was Krista's meal.  Eggs Benedict on a biscuit instead of an English Muffin.  You take a bite of it and it literally melted in your mouth.  I have never tasted Eggs Benedict as good as that was.  And the hollandaise was so bright, creamy and lemony.  Yum.

As 2011 is drawing to a close I am thinking back on the best meals I've had this year.  Right up there at the top would be my breakfast at the Country Cat.   And although it's not in Portland, Olives at the Bellagio in Las Vegas is probably in my number one spot.  I'm dying to go back to that place.  If I did i would order this flatbread again:

rosemary crust, sweet & sour fig jam, Gorgonzola, prosciutto di parma

And I would sit on the balcony with friends and enjoy every bite.  I wonder what my friends would order because I don't think I'm sharing.

You know I agree with you on Por Que No. I LOVE Mother's, but have only ever eaten breakfast there. And I've never heard of that country one.

So, we need to plan that double date night!

I love good food. I've been scouting a couple "must go" places in Bandon. Yu-u-um!

When you and Tonya get together for one of these places, be sure to invite me along! I'd love to try all three of those places. MMMmmm, tacos!
