A little less food in my life which isn't necessarily a bad thing

Do you have a little place that you like to call your own? Maybe a little coffee shop where they don't cringe anymore at your double extra hot skinny4 pumps of syrup instead of eight butter rum steamer?  Or a restaurant that feels more like a refuge instead of a place to eat.

I love these places. When I find someplace I love I will frequent them as my money permits, tipping generously to the people who become almost like family to me.

So when I arrived at my favorite Thai restaurant one night looking for solace with a book in my hand i was shocked to find it dark inside with the doors locked.  Huh? Well maybe they had a family emergency.  But as the days wore on I found that they had indeed closed their doors for good.  Sadness.

Then I went to have lunch one day at my favorite Mexican restaurant. It's right down the road, it's local, the people are friendly and the food is really good. This is a place that I love to go to with a friend or with my hubby.  So I was very sad to see a sign on their door letting all of their loyal customers know that they had been forced to shut down for good.  Sigh.

My last shock came this morning as I went to get my favorite morning treat at the local drive-through Coffee Station.  No more butter rum syrup. What?  I can't have a butter rum steamer without butter rum syrup. That's why this place is special, they have butter rum syrup.  "Can I buy some for you to use here?" I got a lady-you-are-crazy-look.  I explained that I don't drink coffee.  I drink butter rum steamers and only butter rum steamers.

"We have butterscotch."
"It wouldn't be the same."

And it's not.  So I drove off without a steaming cup of warmth in my hand and was left wondering what this present economy has done to my places I call special. No more late night retreats in the darkness of a corner booth sipping Tom Kah Gai, No more lunch dates with my husband over sizzling fajitas, and no more butter rum steamers.  I'm just hoping that Monkey's Subs stays open.

Amen sistah! We love Monkey Subs. So, I'm curious, was the Thai place the one you and Chris took us to? What Mexican place shut down? This is so very sad.
